About Jenn
Jenn, the founder of Yoga Farm, LLC, is a certified secondary science teacher and yoga instructor. She holds an undergraduate degree in human nutrition/dietetics, a masters degree in environment and natural resources and has practiced yoga for eleven years. During her nine years as an educator, she has enjoyed a range of experiences, which have been insightful, rewarding, and formative. Her teaching career encompasses a multitude of academic settings and age groups, including public and private secondary schools, experiential and residential education centers, colleges, and a non-profit, international service learning organization. Particular emphasis has been at the middle and high school level.
How it all started
Jenn grew up on a farm in upstate New York and which allowed her to recognize the value of connecting to the land, engaging in community, growing food, and leading a healthy, active lifestyle. She started connecting or "yoking" her passions for sustainability, science understanding, and personal well-being in graduate school when she taught place-based environmental science to adolescents in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She noticed significant positive changes in her student’s behavior, concentration, critical thinking skills, and scientific connection when she incorporated yoga into her teaching methods. Yoga Farm evolved from Jenn's graduate thesis, where she creatively “yoked” her passions…science, health, sustainability, education, community, and yoga. She developed a comprehensive curriculum which incorporates yoga into standards-based science teaching.
Jenn believes in educating the whole person by making meaningful connections between learning and personal life. As an educator, she strives to enhance her understanding of how students learn, individualize instruction, and develop rich curriculum that is student-centered and applicable to life and practice. Her educational philosophy has evolved significantly with each academic and professional endeavor she has pursued. She has experienced several scientific viewpoints, from educator to naturalist to health practitioner. Her multidisciplinary background enhances her perspective and ability to teach science and yoga across several disciplines. Her natural science background works synergistically with the effort to heighten student’s environmental awareness and engage in the local community.
